The 18-year-old man who was shot was taken to Stroger Hospital, fire officials said.

One person suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out in an Avondale home Tuesday morning.

Pis Mieczyslan, 74, was pulled from the lake  near 95th Street, fire officials said Friday.

Firefighters battled flames that tore through a vacant building in the 1600 block of West 75 th Street.

A blaze that started in the basement quickly spread through the Wicker Park restaurant Friday morning.

Friends of Vershonda Marshall, 41, said she was confident, beautiful and had a big heart.

The fire began  about 2:20 a.m. Friday in the 12100 block of South Parnell Avenue.  

Dozens of "good Samaritans" stopped to help before emergency personnel arrived, a witness said.

The fire was extinguished with no injuries just after 5 p.m., officials said.

A fire engine was hit by a woman driving through a red light Tuesday morning in Canaryville, police said.

Both victims were taken to nearby hospitals in serious but stable condition, police said.

“Just like a hammer hitting nails, it drove them through the floor,” fire officials said.

Police have launched an arson and homicide investigation, officials said.

No one was reported injured in the firefight at 2734 E. 79th St., officials said.

The four firefighters were hurt in a fire in a two-story home on the 5700 block of North Newark Avenue.
