HERMOSA — A fire erupted at an auto body shop in Hermosa Tuesday, officials said.

The fire department was called at 4:48 p.m. to the fire in the 3900 block of West Armitage Avenue, said a spokeswoman for the Chicago Fire Department.

The two-story building has residential space on the second floor and commercial space on the first. The auto body shop, where the fire started, was in the back of the building, the spokeswoman said.

Giovanni Deleon said he saw smoke billowing from the roof of the building before seeing firefighters attempting to enter it.

"They couldn't open the door at first because of a keycode," he said. "They got in through the garage."

"Once they opened the door [smoke] started pouring out."

The fire was extinguished at 5:11 p.m. and no one was injured, officials said.
