Antonio Lampley, 23, of Roseland, forgot there was a bullet in the chamber of his gun, prosecutors said.
The incident occurred in the 600 block of North Ashland Avenue, police said.
Most recently, a 38-year-old man was shot in Englewood just after 5 a.m., police said.
The men were taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, police said.
Cordarius Lawrence, Darryl Wilson and Joshua Martin are set to appear in bond court, police said.

Graig Stewart, of Cicero, died Tuesday after he was shot 24 hours earlier, officials said.
Demetrius M. Peebles was pronounced dead at 10:31 p.m., officials said.
Most recently, a woman was shot several times while driving in Chicago Lawn early Friday, police said.
