Shootings Kill 2 People, Wound 17 Since Friday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two people were killed and 17 wounded in shootings since Friday, police said.

At 9:30 p.m., Jeremy Ray, a 27-year-old man, was shot to death while standing outside in South Chicago.

At 8:45 p.m., Terry Bates Jr., 26, was killed and another man wounded during a shooting in Englewood.

In non-fatal shootings:

• Most recently, at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old was shot in Chatham, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The teen was on the porch of a home in the 8800 block of South Princeton Avenue when three men shot at him.

The teen was hit in his head and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, Lemmon said.

• At 12:15 a.m., a 23-year-old was seriously wounded when a man dressed in orange opened fire on him, Lemmon said.

• At 11:40 p.m. Friday, a 23-year-old man was shot in East Side, Lemmon said. The man was in the 11300 block of South Normal Avenue when he was shot in his leg.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition, Lemmon said.

• At 10:50 p.m., a 51-year-old woman was shot in South Austin, Lemmon said. The woman was in the 300 block of North Central Avenue when shooters in a maroon-colored van fired shots.

The woman was hit in her left ankle. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, Lemmon said.

• At 10:45 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in South Austin, Lemmon said. The man was walking in the 0-100 block of North Latrobe Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain.

The man was shot in his back. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was not released but he was listed as "stable," Lemmon said.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

• At 10:10 p.m., two men were shot in Heart of Chicago, Lemmon said. The men, who were 22 and 20 years old, were walking in the 1700 block of South Wolcott Avenue when they heard shots and felt pain.

The 20-year-old man was shot in his back and right arm. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Lemmon said.

The 22-year-old man was shot in his left arm. He was taken to University of Chicago, where his condition was not released but he was listed as "stable," Lemmon said.

The men were documented gang members, police said.

• At 8:52 p.m., a 24-year-old man was wounded during a shooting at Foster Beach.

• At 8:11 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in Garfield Park, Lemmon said. The man was driving in the 3000 block of West Jackson Boulevard when a van pulled up and shooters wearing masks opened fire on the man.

The man was hit in his elbow and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, Lemmon said.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

• At 8:08 p.m., a young girl and 34-year-old woman were shot in Marquette Park.

• At 4:48 p.m., a 17-year-old and 20-year-old man were shot in Englewood. Their shooter crashed his car after driving off and then ran away.

• At 2:49 p.m., a 73-year-old man was shot in his face in South Shore.

• At 12:55 p.m., a man was shot and seriously wounded in Little Village.

• At 8:35 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in his neck and groin in Brighton Park.

No one was in custody in these shootings.
