UPTOWN — Three people have been murdered and 10 people wounded, including a man shot Monday morning, in shootings in the Town Hall District.

In 2015, four people were murdered and 10 people were wounded in shootings, according to data from DNAinfo

Following the recent spate of shootings in the neighborhood, Ald. James Cappleman (46th) is inviting residents to attend Thursday's Town Hall District CAPS meeting. The Town Hall District includes Lakeview and parts of Uptown, Lincoln Square, North Center and Lincoln Park.

"I encourage you to attend to be a part of the discussion surrounding this incident and overall safety in our neighborhood. I will continue to work with police and neighbors to do everything we can to keep our streets safe. We need your help in continuing to improve public safety in our community," Cappleman said in an email Monday.

Most recently, a 22-year-old man was shot Monday morning near the Uptown Branch of the Chicago Public Library in the 900 block of West Buena Avenue.

Around 10:20 a.m. Monday, the man was walking near the library when two men walked up and opened fire before running off. The man was shot in the chest and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Detectives are working with neighbors and nearby witnesses to try and gather accounts and surveillance footage. Police said the victim was most likely known and targeted by the shooter, Cappleman said.

Last week, Cappleman (46th) and Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) announced 26 more police officers have joined the Town Hall District over the past six months. Since October the officers — including eight sergeants — have joined the district.

In March, three people were shot in the district. Around 5:25 p.m. on March 23, a 54-year-old man was shot near Broadway and Wilson Avenue.

Around 11:50 p.m. on March 22, a 17-year-old was shot in the 2300 block of West Cullom Avenue in North Center.

Around 2:08 p.m. on March 11, a 17-year-old was shot in the leg in the 4600 block of North Magnolia Avenue.

In February, two murders occurred in the Town Hall district.

Around 7:55 a.m. on Feb. 22, 59-year-old cab driver Kamil Shamji was fatally shot outside the Sulzer Regional Library in Lincoln Square. Around 10:55 a.m. on Feb. 4, 55-year-old Lazane Clark was shot near the corner of Oakdale Avenue and Halsted Street after getting into an argument with a 67-year-old man. Clarke died about a week after the shooting.

In January, five people were shot in the district, including a triple shooting in North Center left one man dead and two others injured.

Around 7:33 p.m. on Jan. 8, Pablo Ulloa, 25, was fatally shot in an apartment building at 1950 W. Belle Plaine Ave. Two men were also injured in the incident.

Around 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 27, a 23-year-old man was shot in the 900 block of West Agatite Avenue. Around 3 p.m. on Jan. 15, a 66-year-old woman was shot in the 1000 block of West Wilson Avenue.

The CAPS meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at The Shift, 4101 N. Broadway, and is focused on "general thefts."
