NORTH CENTER — A Tuesday night shooting in North Center has links to a gang member from Albany Park, according to new details provided by Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th).

The 17-year-old victim is a documented gang member, known to officers in the Albany Park (17th) Police District, the alderman said in an email to constituents Wednesday.

The teen "has not been cooperative with police," Pawar said.

The shooting took place just before midnight Tuesday. The teen was walking in the 2300 block of West Cullom Avenue when a man walked up and shot him, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Officers found an abandoned vehicle in the 2200 block of West Cullom, indicating to investigators that an "altercation took place between persons ... driving through the area," Pawar said, though the alderman cautioned that "it is still too early to determine the exact circumstances."

The teen was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, Estrada said. Police could not provide his condition but said he was "stable."

No one is in custody, Estrada said.

In January, shots were reported fired at Cullom and Claremont — the same area as Tuesday's shooting. Though there were no victims in that earlier incident, several shell casings were recovered, according to the 47th Ward office.
