UPTOWN — A 54-year-old man was shot Wednesday near Broadway and Wilson Avenue in Uptown, police said.

Around 5:25 p.m., the man was shot his leg in the 4600 block of North Broadway. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Police said they do not believe the man was the intended target of the shooting.

The shooting is the second in the neighborhood in 24 hours. Tuesday evening, a 19-year-old man was shot in his foot in the 5100 block of North Sheridan Road. Police could not provide the man's condition but said he was stable at Illinois Masonic.

After Wednesday's shooting, police taped off the corner directly in front of City Sports, at 4601 N. Broadway, and searched for shell casings near the Divvy bike station.

Across Wilson Avenue, employees of the currency exchange said they heard about five shots around 5:23 p.m., seconds before a woman ran into the store seeking shelter.

A bullet went through the two doors leading into Palla's Grill, at 4570 N. Broadway.

"I didn't know what it was at the beginning. Then it was like what's going on?" said an employee, who refused to give his name.
