Three Killed, 31 Wounded in Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO — Shootings this weekend killed three people and left at least 31 wounded, police said.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old man was found dead in Austin after being shot in his back. Since then, 13 people have been wounded in shootings across the city, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Most recently, a 36-year-old man was shot while riding his bike in the 5200 block of West Quincy Street in Austin when a man began shooting from a dark car, Estrada said. The man was struck in his left leg in the 12:20 a.m. Monday shooting and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, he said.

Three people, including a 15-year-old boy, were shot while standing on a porch in the 2100 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in Belmont Cragin. Police said a man walked up to the group and opened fire around 11:45 p.m. Sunday. A 20-year-old woman was shot in her left leg and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was treated and released, Estrada said.

Two people were also treated and released from Community First Medical Center in the Kilpatrick Avenue incident. A 20-year-old man was shot in his left ankle and right foot and a 15-year-old boy was shot in his left elbow, Estrada said.

At 11:33 p.m. on Sunday, a 31-year-old man was shot while standing with a group in the 6000 block of South Champlain Avenue on the South Side of Washington Park when he was shot in his right leg. He was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said.

Two people were shot while walking in the 7900 block of South Eberhart Avenue in Chatham around 11:04 p.m. Saturday. A 23-year-old man was shot in his upper right leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A 25-year-old man was shot in his right leg, abdomen and back and was driven to University of Chicago hospital by a friend. He was transferred to Stroger in critical condition, Estrada said.

Around 10:35 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot while standing outside in the 4900 block of West Ferdinand Street in South Austin. He was shot in his shoulder and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

Around 10:05 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot multiple times when someone approached him as he sat in a parked car in the 5200 block of West LeMoyne Street in Austin. He was taken to Loyola Hospital in critical condition, Estrada said.

In West Pullman, a 22-year-old man was shot in his lower left leg while in the 11700 block of South Peoria Street in West Pullman. He was driven to Roseland Hospital by a friend and was listed in fair condition, Estrada said.

Just before 7 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in Little Village.

Around 5:38 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in his hip in the 7300 block of South St. Lawrence. He was taken to Stroger in fair condition and was uncooperative with police, Estrada said.

Around 2 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in Grand Crossing.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings.

From Saturday afternoon into Sunday, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot shielding his 46-year-old mother, an 18-year-old man was shot dead in West Humboldt Park and 14 people were wounded in shootings.

Friday night, four people were wounded in shootings across the city.
