CHICAGO — Five people are dead and at least 27 others were wounded in shootings across the city since Saturday night during a bloody Fourth of July weekend, according to police.

That brings the total, since the long weekend started Thursday afternoon, to 9 people dead and 38 others wounded in shootings on a weekend when Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy promised "all hands on deck" to help prevent the high totals of gun violence from the 2014 holiday weekend.

In the most recent homicide, in Auburn Gresham, two men are dead after being shot while in a car then crashing into a building Sunday morning.

In Humboldt Park, a 7-year-old boy was fatally shot and a 26-year-old woman was wounded while walking home from a 4th of July celebration Saturday night.

In Albany Park, a man was shot and killed, and two others were wounded while sitting in a van, and in South Shore, a 26-year-old man was sitting in a car when he was fatally shot early Sunday.

In nonfatal shootings, according to police, a man was seriously wounded after he was shot less than an hour after the Navy Pier fireworks show. In Little Village, two men were wounded in separate shootings. In West Town, a man was seriously wounded near a Blue Line Station, and in Old Town, two teenagers were shot while walking in the 1400 block of North Hudson Avenue.

• In other non-fatal shootings, around 4:45 a.m., a 28-year-old man was in a car with two women in the 1000 block of South Kedzie Avenue in North Lawndale, when he heard shots and felt pain, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was shot in his back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.

• In Austin around 4 a.m., a 24-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 4000 block of North Cicero Avenue when a man walked up and fired shots. The man was shot in his left arm and taken to Mount Sinai where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.

• Five minutes earlier, in Englewood, two men, both 31, were on a front porch in the 5100 block of South Princeton Avenue when a man approached and fired shots around 3:55 a.m. One man was shot in both legs and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition. The other was shot in his left arm and taken to John H. Stroger Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.

•Around 3:20 in Austin, four men were shot during an argument in the 5100 block of West Washington Street. A 25-year-old man was shot in his knee and taken to West Suburban Hospital in critical condition.  A 24-year-old was shot in his leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. A 29 year-old was shot in his right shoulder and a 31-year-old was shot in the right foot. Both were taken to West Suburban Hospital where their conditions had stabilized, Estrada said.

• In Roseland around 2:45 a.m., a 33-year-old woman was in the sidewalk in the 11100 block of South Parnell Avenue when shots were fired. The woman was shot in her head, and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, Estrada said.

• In Marquette Park around 2:25 a.m., a 22-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 7000 block of South Artesian Avenue when a man emerged from a gangway and fired shots. He was shot in his ankle and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was listed in good condition, Estrada said.

• In South Shore around 2:02 a.m., a 27-year-old was shot in his chest during a domestic dispute in the 1900 block of East 71st Place. He was taken to a Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition. A person of interest is being questioned in the shooting, Estrada said.

• Around 1:55 a.m. in Austin, a 24-year-old man was shot in his groin in the 5800 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue. He was dropped off at West Suburban Hospital, and transferred to Loyola University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, Estrada said.

• In Back of the Yards around 1 a.m., a 32-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 600 block of West 54th Street when a man approached and opened fire. He was shot in his chest and right leg, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.

According to police, the man is a documented gang member.

• In Brighton Park, a 25-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 3200 block of West 38th Street, when he was shot in his buttocks at 1:02 a.m. He was taken to Mount Sinai in fair condition, Estrada said.

• Minutes after midnight, an 18-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk in the 9700 block of South Greenwood Avenue in Pullman, when a SUV drove up and fired shots. The woman was shot in her leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where her condition had stabilized, Estrada said.

• In Archer Heights at 10:50 p.m., a 20-year-old man was walking in the 4800 block of South Kilbourn Avenue when shots were fired from a black sedan. The man was shot in his right arm, and taken to a firehouse on 55th and Narraganasett. Then he was taken to MacNeal Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Estrada said.

• Around 9:20 p.m. in Roseland, two men, 20 and 24, were in a backyard at a party in the 9200 block of South Forest Avenue when someone opened fire. The 20-year-old was shot in his right shoulder and the 24-year-old was shot in his right hand. They drove themselves to Roseland Community Hospital where their conditions had stabilized, Estrada said.
