CHICAGO — A man was shot and seriously wounded in Streeterville Saturday, police said.

Around 10:05 p.m., the man was shot in the 200 block of East Ohio Street, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man, whose age was unknown, was shot in his abdomen and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, Alfaro said.

The shooting happened near the heart of the Magnificent Mile shopping area and close to Navy Pier, where the city's Fourth of July fireworks had concluded less than an hour before. At a press conference Sunday afternoon, Supt. Garry McCarthy said that the crime was committed in front of a uniformed police officer.

"[The shooting] took place right in front of one of our uniformed police officers. Our officers were in the right place at the right time. They pursued the individual, recovered the weapon and arrested the offender," he said.
