Nine Dead, 29 Wounded in Holiday Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO — Nine people have been killed and another 28 have been wounded in shootings since Friday afternoon, police say.

Overnight Sunday into Monday, three people were killed and six people were wounded in shootings, police said.

In Kenwood two teens were shot, one fatally, around 8:15 p.m. A 20-year-old man was fatally shot in Humboldt Park Sunday around 4 p.m. About 30 minutes earlier, a 39-year-old man was fatally shot during a drive-by shooting in Garfield Park.

Most recently, two 25-year-old men were shot in the 11300 block of South Stewart Avenue in Roseland after a dice game, Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Both men were shot in their legs and taken to Roseland Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, Cooper said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, a 20-year-old man was shot in Portage Park.

Around 5:15 p.m. Sunday, a 19-year-old man was shot in Albany Park.

Two people were shot in the 2000 block of West 69th Street in Englewood around 10:35 p.m., said Cooper.

A 25-year-old man was shot in his leg and a 20-year-old was shot in his hip while standing at the location. Both were taken to Christ Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, Cooper said.

Between Friday and Sunday afternoon, six people were killed and 22 others were wounded in shootings.
