Solo Cup Is Psyched The New 'Star Wars' Movie Is Called 'Solo'

CHICAGO — The logo for the new Han Solo movie might seem familiar to Chicagoans.

That's because the movie's name, "Solo: A Star Wars Story," is the same as Solo, the Chicago-based company that makes the iconic red cups used for parties. Reportedly, the movie's working title was even "Red Cup" in reference to the Chicago company.

The Star Wars film's name was officially announced Wednesday, and fans quickly made the connection to the red cups.

"Look. @Disney. If your marketing guys don't partner with @SoloCup ... Money on the dang table," one person tweeted out after the announcement.

But it's not just the name of the two that's similar — the logos for the two bear a resemblance:

Solo (the cup company) is "as excited as the rest of the world" about the Star Wars movie, said brand manager Becca Bikoff in a statement. The company has a location in West Lawn near Ford City mall.

"We’re delighted our Solo fans are having fun with the correlation with our brand," Bikoff said. "Unfortunately Han Solo lives in a galaxy far, far away, so don’t expect to see the Solo cup integrated into the movie.

"However, we do have plans to 'SOLObrate' the new trilogy in our own way. Stay tuned!"

Fans of the film noted the connection during the announcement this week:
