Deering District

On Thursday, Deering District police issued a warning about two recent neighborhood burglaries.

The man broke into two homes in the 900 block of West 37th Street, officials said.

Since Jan. 12, armed robbers have targeted at least five neighborhood businesses.

Officers and beat facilitators will be on hand for each meeting.

There has been a rash of burglaries in the neighborhood, police said.

In 2016, Chicago Police took almost 2,900 guns off the streets between January and April.

In December and January, there was a rash of restaurant robberies in the area.

In Beat 915, there was one call for shots fired from Dec. 12-Jan. 9.

Residents are invited to chat about local crime issues with Chicago Police officers.

There was one murder in beat 913 during 2016, a large drop from 2015, when there were three killings.

Detectives need help identifying three men they said robbed and beat a rider on the Red Line.

Police will be on the lookout for drunken drivers on the South Side this weekend.

Officers will conduct a DUI strike force patrol from 6 p.m. Saturday-2 a.m. Sunday.

He replaces Daniel Godsel, now the commander of the department’s Education and Training Division.
