Stephen Chung Named New Commander of Deering Police District

 He comes from the Grand Crossing District, where he was a captain. Chung is a 20-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and a recipient of the CPD Superintendent’s Award of Valor. He replaces Daniel Godsel, who is now the commander of CPD’s Education and Training Division. In his new role, he will support the department’s efforts to hire and train 970 new officers over the next two years.

BRIDGEPORT — The Deering District has a new boss.

His name is Stephen Chung, and he recently took over as the Bridgeport-based district's commander.

He replaces Daniel Godsel, who is now the commander of the Chicago Police Department’s Education and Training Division. In his new role, Godsel will support the department’s efforts to hire and train 970 new officers over the next two years.

Chung was previously a captain in the Grand Crossing District. He has served nearly two decades, working in the Bureau of Patrol, Bureau of Detectives and the training division.

He is a recipient of the Chicago Police Department’s Award of Valor and the Cook County Award of Valor.

Chung has a bachelor's degree from Lewis University.
