BRIDGEPORT — Police will be on the lookout for drunken drivers on the South Side this weekend.

Officers will conduct a DUI strike force patrol in the Deering District from 6 p.m. Saturday-2 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Police will saturate the district to find drivers who are drunk, speeding or not wearing their seat belts.

The Deering District encompasses 14 square miles and serves a number of South Side neighborhoods, including Armour Square, Bridgeport, Canaryville, McKinley Park and Back of the Yards.

A DUI strike force in the Grand Central Police District on Sept. 9-10 led to 156 charges, including one drunken driving charge, 46 unsafe vehicle violations, 21 insurance violations, 20 safety belt violations and 14 driver's license violations. Three vehicles were towed.
