Data and Social Media @tanveerali Contact

Tanveer Ali is DNAinfo.com Chicago's data reporter and social media specialist.

Since moving to Chicago in 2009, Tanveer reported and produced multimedia work for a variety of outlets including WBEZ, Columbia Journalism Review, GOOD Magazine and the Chicago News Cooperative. He has also developed a number of web-based projects for Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

Prior to moving to Chicago, his favorite city, Tanveer worked at The Detroit News, where he covered the suburbs in Michigan's largest county, while often lending a hand in the paper's broader breaking news coverage. He also was an intern at The Hartford Courant, covering suburban affairs before moving on to the night cops desk.

Tanveer studied history as an undergraduate at Columbia University in New York City and earned a master's degree in journalism specializing in interactive publishing from Medill.

Fun Fact: Tanveer will always order last at a restaurant. Always. He hates having the same dish as someone else at the table.
