HYDE PARK — Hyde Park will have a slate of new restaurant openings, with Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria and Brewery, Aloha Poke Co. and BBQ Supply Co. all expected to open this month.
BBQ Supply Co. replaces Yusho and the other two restaurants move into storefronts that have been empty up until now.
Aloha Poke Co. was the first to open, serving the Hawaiian-style raw fish salad bowls at 5221 S. Harper Court. It’s the restaurant’s fifth location and the first in a wave of 14 new locations the restaurant is planning to open in Chicago.
Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria and Brewery will open its first location outside of Michigan on Oct. 19 at 1504 E. Harper Court. It will be the restaurant’s fourth location and is planning to have 30 beers and ciders on tap and a menu of pizza, burgers and sandwiches.
The restaurant is still hiring and is asking potential applicants to come by the new location to apply for bartender, line cook and dishwasher positions.

BBQ Supply Co., which is replacing Yusho at 1301 E. 53rd St., is putting on the “finishing touches” and will announce an opening date soon, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The smoker was installed more than a month ago to make the pork ribs, pulled pork and Texas-style sausages and brisket that will be on the menu. The tables and counters that keep the Yusho layout also appear now to be done, according to Facebook, so an opening within the month seems possible.
BBQ Supply is expected to be the last in a wave of restaurant openings, leaving Hyde Parkers with lots of new food options as winter approaches.
Nella Pizza and Pasta opened Sept. 15 at 1125 E. 55th St. serving Napoli-style pizza and pasta.
The owner of Shinju Sushi opened Eto’o Modern Asian Cuisine Aug. 29 at 1373 E. 53rd St. to serve Thai food next to his sushi restaurant. It replaces Litehouse Whole Food Grill, which moved to take over a larger vacant storefront at 1660 E. 55th St. in late June.
