Chicago Chefs Stephanie Izard, Sarah Grueneberg To Battle On 'Iron Chef'

WEST LOOP — Two renowned West Loop chefs will fight for the title of Iron Chef on a new TV series this spring. 

Celebrity chefs Stephanie Izard of Girl & the Goat and Sarah Grueneberg of Monteverde, both will battle five other culinary masters on the new Food Network show "Iron Chef Gauntlet." The series, which follows the chefs as they compete in Kitchen Stadium, will premiere at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 16. 

The new six-show series marks the return of cult the favorite Iron Chef series for the first time since 2013. 

After battling each other in five weeks of challenges judged by host Alton Brown, the last chef standing will enter a three-ringed gauntlet to compete against three reigning Iron Chefs — Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto and Michael Symon.

After opening Girl & the Goat at 809 W. Randolph St. in 2010, Izard went on top open Little Goat Diner next door in 2012 and modern Chinese restaurant Duck Duck Goat on Fulton Market in 2016. A James Beard and Food & Wine Magazine award-winning chef, Izard was also instrumental in launching Fulton Market Harvest Fest in fall 2016. 

In 2008, Izard competed on Season 4 of Bravo's "Top Chef: Chicago," becoming the first woman to win the title of Top Chef on the series. 

Grueneberg, a Spiaggia alum, opened Italian restaurant Monteverde at 1020 W. Madison St. in November 2015. Food & Wine named Monteverde one of its Restaurants of the Year in 2016. 

In 2011, Grueneberg competed on Season 9 of Bravo's "Top Chef: Texas," where she was named runner-up.

Other chefs competing on "Iron Chef Gauntlet" include: 

• Nyesha Arrington, former executive chef/owner of Leona, Los Angeles, Calif. 

• Jason Dady, executive chef/owner of Tre Trattoria, San Antonio, Texas

• Michael Gulotta, executive chef/owner of MOPHO, New Orleans, La. 

• Shota Nakajima, executive chef/owner of Adana, Seattle, Wash. 

• Jonathon Sawyer, executive chef/owner, The Greenhouse Tavern, Cleveland, Ohio

Other familiar faces from past Iron Chef battles are expected to return as judged, including Jose Garces, Geoffrey Zakarian, Alex Guarnaschelli and Donatella Arpaia.
