WEST LOOP — Chef Stephanie Izard is opening a third restaurant in the West Loop this summer, she announced Thursday.

Duck Duck Goat, Izard's take on Chinese cuisine, is set to open in late summer at 857 W. Fulton St. in the neighborhood's trendy Fulton Market district.

The "Top Chef" alum's new spot will be two blocks away from her current restaurants, the successful Girl and the Goat and diner Little Goat, which also includes a bakery.

After years of incorporating Chinese flavors at her restaurants, it was during a Sunday supper at Little Goat in December 2013 that Izard decided her next restaurant would be a Chinese concept.

Izard first fell in love with Asian cuisine growing up in Connecticut, where her favorite evenings were Chinese food nights at home, spent making tempura or fresh mu shu pancakes with her mom in the kitchen.

“I was fortunate enough to recently go to China with my husband, colleagues and friends. While there, we visited Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Hangzhou and were able to experience first-hand the local flavors," the chef said. “Since then, I’ve been spending time in the kitchen practicing the different noodles I learned to make while there for Duck Duck Goat, and am looking forward to another trip to Taiwan this year to continue my research of Chinese cuisine.”

Izard, a James Beard “Best Chef” and Food & Wine “Best New Chef,” previously owned the highly acclaimed restaurant Scylla, which she sold just prior to appearing on and winning season four of Bravo's "Top Chef" TV show.

Izard will open Duck Duck Goat in partnership with Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz of BOKA Restaurant Group.
