2 Dead, 11 Wounded In Shootings Since Thursday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Gun violence has resulted in two people killed and 11 others wounded since Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Included among the dead is a 73-year-old man shot and killed while driving in Austin early Friday. Police aren't sure if he was the intended target.

A 48-year-old man was killed in Greater Grand Crossing Thursday afternoon.

In other shootings:

• At 1:09 a.m., a 28-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park, police said.

The man was walking in the street in the 500 block of North Springfield Avenue when he was grazed in the forehead and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital in good condition, police said.

• At 11:35 p.m., a 39-year-old woman was shot in North Lawndale, police said.

She was driving southbound and stopped at a red light in the 1100 block of South Independence Boulevard when a gold Saturn drove up and began firing, police said. The woman was hit in the left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was not released but police considered her to be stable.

• At 11:30 p.m., two people were shot in East Garfield Park, police said. 

They were in a car stopped at a red light in the 600 block of South Homan Avenue when shots rang out, police said. A 20-year-old man was shot in his left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said. A 19-year-old woman was shot in her left arm and back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was not released but police considered her to be stable.

The man is a documented gang member, a police source said.

• A 19-year-old man was shot in Bridgeport Thursday night, police said.

• At 7:31 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in West Englewood, police said.

He was in an alley in the 5400 block of South Loomis Street when he was shot in his hip, police said. He ran to the 1400 block of West Garfield Boulevard where first responders were called and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in what police were considering "stable" condition.

• At 7:27 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in East Garfield Park, police said.

The man was riding a bike in the 2900 block of West Flournoy Street when a dark green car drove up and someone inside began firing, police said. He was struck in his foot and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• At 7:15 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot in South Deering, police said.

The man was driving in the 2400 block of East 99th Street when someone in another car began firing, police said. He was struck in his arm and managed to get himself to Trinity Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• At 4:50 p.m., a 17-year-old was shot in West Pullman.

• At 3 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in East Garfield Park, police said.

The man was standing in the 3200 block of West Washington Street when a car drove up and someone inside began firing, police said. He was struck in both legs and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• At 2:09 p.m., a 19-year-old man was gravely wounded in a Chicago Lawn shooting.
