Shootings Kill 6, Wound 33 In Weekend Violence, Police Say

CHICAGO — Shootings over the weekend resulted in six people killed and at least 33 others wounded, according to police.

On Sunday, one person was killed and 12 others were wounded, police said, including a man shot to death in Little Village.

One of the people wounded Sunday was shot by police during an armed confrontation after a traffic stop in Englewood.

On Friday, one person was killed and nine were wounded, police said. On Saturday, four were killed and 12 others wounded in shootings, police said.

In non-fatal shootings:

• At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in Auburn Gresham, police said.

He was outside in the 1500 block of West 82st Street when two people walked up and began firing, police said. The boy was struck in his buttocks and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was not released but police were considering him to be stable.

• At 7:05 p.m., a 23-year-old man was critically wounded in a Hermosa shooting, police said.

The man was found unresponsive in the 1900 block of North Karlov Avenue, police said. He had been shot in his face, chest, back and hand and was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition, police said.

At 6:50 p.m., a 23-year-old man was wounded in an Ashburn shooting, police said.

The man had just got out of a car in the 8000 block of South Sacramento Avenue when a light gray car drove up and someone inside began firing, police said. He was struck in his head and back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

At 6:11 p.m., a 33-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were shot in Englewood, police said.

Gunfire was exchanged between two groups in the 7000 block of South Racine Avenue and the two were caught in the crossfire, police said. The man was struck twice in his abdomen and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in what police were considering "stable" condition.

The woman was grazed in her shoulder and refused medical treatment, police said.

Officers arriving to the scene saw an 18-year-old man with a gun and chased him before placing him under arrest, police said. He was taken to an area hospital after injuring his hand during the chase, police said, and charges are pending against him, police said.

At 4:50 p.m., 59-year-old man was shot in North Lawndale, police said.

The man was walking in the 1500 block of South Kolin Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was struck in his right leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

At 5:10 a.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in Bucktown, police said.

At 5 a.m., a 17-year-old was wounded in a Heart of Chicago shooting, police said.

He was walking in the 2100 block of South Western Avenue when he was stuck in the knee, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

At 4:20 a.m., a 39-year-old man was wounded in an Austin shooting, police said.

The man was driving in the 5100 block of West North Avenue when he was shot in his upper back, police said. The car's passenger then got in the driver's seat and drove him to West Suburban Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• At 4:15 a.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in Austin, police said.

He was sitting in a car in the 300 block of North Pine Street when someone walked up and began firing, police said. He was struck in his abdomen and was taken to West Suburban Hospital where he left after refusing treatment, police said.

• At 4 a.m. Sunday,  a 37-year-old man was shot in North Lawndale, police said.

He was in the 3700 block of West Roosevelt Road when he was shot in the leg and was taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, police said.
