CHICAGO — A man was shot after running from and confronting officers with a gun during a traffic stop in Englewood Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers pulled over a car with a stolen license plate at 9:58 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of West 59th Place, the Chicago Police Department said in a news release. As officers walked to the stopped car, three people got out and began running, police said.

The officers began chasing them, and one of the men "confronted" an officer with a gun before the officer fired, striking the man multiple times, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in unknown condition.

Police arrested all three people who ran from the stopped car, and two weapons were recovered from the scene, police said. No officers were reported injured.

The Independent Police Review Authority is reviewing the officer's use of force, the department said.
