Shootings Kill 4, Wound 12 Since Saturday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Shootings left four dead and 10 people wounded since Saturday morning, police said.

• At 3:05 a.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old man was shot dead in Pilsen, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was found lying on the ground in the 2400 block of West Lexington Street. He was shot in his back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

He was later pronounced dead, Tannehill said.

• At 2:10 a.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old man was shot dead in the 1500 block of South Christiana in North Lawndale, police said.

Police in the area witnessed the shooting and then saw several people running away, police said. After a chase they were able to arrest two people and charges are pending, police said. Four guns were recovered, police said.

The 20-year-old man was shot in his chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

• At 1:50 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot dead in Rogers Park, Tannehill said. The man left his apartment in the 7300 block of North Sheridan Road but then came back and told friends that he had been shot in the back, police said.

He was taken in serious condition to St. Francis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

• At 10:15 a.m. Saturday, a 20-year-old man was shot dead in Little Village, police said. He was standing on the sidewalk in the 3100 block of West 24th Street when a car pulled up and someone fired shots in his direction and drove away, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was hit in his chest, abdomen, back and arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Lemmon said. He was later pronounced dead at 10:41 a.m.

The man was later identified as Giovanni Galvan of the 2200 block of South Trumbull Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

He was a documented gang member, police sources said.

Nobody was in custody.

In non-fatal shootings:

• At 4:25 a.m. Sunday, a 24-year-old man was shot in Brighton Park, police said. He was in the 3900 block of South Sacramento Avenue when he was hit in his right arm and right leg.

The man took himself to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. He is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 3 a.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old was wounded in a Little Village shooting, police said.

He was in the 3700 block of West 25th Street when he was shot in his hand, police said. He was drunk, and didn't report the shooting until he walked into Mount Sinai Hospital around 5 p.m. Sunday, police said.

• At 2:15 a.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in South Austin, police said. He was hit in his left leg in the 5900 block of West Ohio Street.

The man took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in "stable" condition and was uncooperative with responding officers, police said. He is a documented gang member, police said.

• At 12:30 a.m., a 21-year-old woman was shot in West Ridge, police said. She was in the back seat of a car in the 6300 block of North Mozart Street when someone came up to the car on foot and fired shots.

She was grazed in her abdomen and was taken to St. Francis hospital in good condition, police said.

• At 12:10 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in South Shore, police said. He was walking on the sidewalk in the 7000 block of South Merrill Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain.

He was shot in his face and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.

• At 11:40 p.m. Saturday, a man in his 20s was shot in the 1100 block of West 81st Street in Gresham.

He was hit in his back, neck and groin and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

• At 9:40 p.m., a man was shot in Back of The Yards, police said. He was standing on the street in the 5300 block of South Aberdeen Street when someone in a passing black SUV fired shots, police said.

He was shot in his head and was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, police said.

• At 7:45 p.m., two boys were shot in Gresham, Tannehill said. The two boys were standing on the sidewalk in the 8900 block of South Winchester Avenue when a man approached them on foot and fired shots, police said.

The 15-year-old boy was hit in his left arm and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in stable condition, and the 16-year-old boy was hit in his left ankle and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition.

Both boys are documented gang members, Tannehill said.

• At 6:55 p.m., a 39-year-old man was shot in Chicago Lawn, Tannehill said. He was in an argument with another person on the 5900 block of South Campbell Avenue when the person shot him before running away, police said.

The man was shot in his left side and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

The man is a documented gang member, Tannehill said.

• At 5:55 p.m., a 36-year-old was shot in Hyde Park, Tannehill said. He was outside in the 5300 block of South Maryland Avenue when two people walked up and fire shots, Tannehill said.

The man was hit in his buttocks and leg, and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

• At 10:40 a.m. Saturday, a man was shot in Back of the Yards, police said.

He was in the 4900 block of South Hoyne Avenue when he was grazed in his head by a bullet, police said. He walked into a nearby fire station, where he was then taken to Stroger Hospital in unknown condition, police said. Police did not have his age.

No one was in custody.
