10 Dead, 60 Wounded in Weekend Shootings, Police Say

CHICAGO — Weekend gun violence killed 10 people and wounded at least 60 others since early Friday afternoon in yet another bloody weekend in the city, according to police.

Two were killed and 18 wounded in shootings since Sunday, police said.

One man was killed in Austin Sunday afternoon, police said. A 35-year-old woman was gunned down during a domestic dispute on the Far South Side early Monday, police said.

Shootings, however, peaked Saturday and into Sunday, when four were killed and 23 others were wounded. On Friday, four died from shootings and 19 others were wounded, police said.

Non-fatal shootings since Sunday include:

• A 19-year-old man was shot in Austin at 1:45 a.m. Monday.

• A 29-year-old woman was shot in Washington Park early Monday, police said.

She was on a porch in the 200 block of East 60th Street at 12:15 a.m. when she was grazed in the right ankle. The woman refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

• A 22-year-old man was shot in South Chicago late Sunday, police said.

He was in the 8900 block of South Houston Avenue at 11:25 p.m. Sunday when he was grazed by a bullet in his back, police said. He refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.

• A 28-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were wounded in a West Englewood shooting late Sunday, police said. 

The victims are believed to have been standing on a porch in the 5500 block of South Throop Street at 10:40 p.m. when shots rang out, police said.

The 28-year-old was struck in his back and the 35-year-old was struck in his buttocks, police said. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were not released but police considered them to be stable.

• A 34-year-old man was shot in West Ridge Sunday night, police said.

• A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman were shot in North Lawndale Sunday night, police said. 

They were on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of South Independence Boulevard at 9 p.m. when a man walked out from a nearby alley and began firing, police said.

The 17-year-old was struck on her right side and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said. The 18-year-old was also hit in her left side and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in what police were considering stable condition.

• A 50-year-old man was shot in Englewood at 9 p.m. Sunday, police said. 

He was driving in the 5600 block of South Englewood Avenue when he passed a group of people and someone in the group pulled out a gun and began firing, police said. He was struck in the chest and head and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• An 18-year-old man was wounded in a South Shore shooting Sunday night, police said.

The man was on the sidewalk in the 6700 block of South East End Avenue at 8:20 p.m. when a silver car drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was hit in the left leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• Three people were shot in West Lawn Sunday evening, police said.

They were on the sidewalk in the 6200 block of South Kenneth Avenue at 7:05 p.m. when someone walked up and began firing, police said.

A 19-year-old man was hit multiple times and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said. A 24-year-old man was hit in his left arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in what police were considering stable condition. A 17-year-old man was struck in his leg and was also taken to Sinai Hospital in what police called "stable" condition.

• A 26-year-old man was wounded in a Back of the Yards shooting Sunday evening, police said.

He was on the sidewalk in the 5100 block of South Wolcott Avenue at 6:50 p.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was struck in his abdomen and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old were shot in West Pullman Sunday, police said.

They were outside in the 700 block of West 123rd Street at 5:15 p.m. when  blue car drove by and someone inside began firing, police said.

The 16-year-old was struck in his left shoulder and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable. The 17-year-old was hit in his side and was taken to Metro South Medical Center, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• A man was shot in Gage Park Sunday afternoon, police said.

• At 12:15 p.m. Sunday, a 30-year-old man was wounded in a Roseland attack, police said.

He was in the 10100 block of South State Street when he was struck in the abdomen, police said. The man tried to drive himself to a hospital when he crashed into a car carrying two adults and two children, police said.

He was eventually taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
