2 Dead, 8 Wounded In Shootings Since Tuesday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two people were killed and at least eight others were wounded in shootings on the South and West sides since Tuesday, according to police.

One of those killed was a 30-year-old employee who tried to thwart a robbery at his workplace but was gunned down.

The day's first shooting at 1:07 p.m. was also a homicide after police found Laron McCoy, 25, shot in his head. He later died, police said.

In non-fatal shootings:

• A 19-year-old woman was shot in Gage Park early Wednesday, police said. 

She was walking with a man in the 5300 block of South Rockwell Street at 1 a.m. when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. She was hit in her left leg and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where her condition was not released but police considered her stable.

• A 25-year-old man was wounded in a Roseland shooting early Wednesday, police said.

The man was standing outside when a black Kia drove past and someone inside fired shots, police said. He was shot in both legs and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was not released but police considered him stable.

• Two people were shot in Back of the Yards within a half hour Tuesday night. A 17-year-old girl was wounded in a shooting and a 22-year-old man was also shot in separate attacks, police said.

• A 23-year-old man was shot in West Englewood Tuesday, according to police.

He was walking on the sidewalk in the 6800 block of South Throop Street at 9 p.m. when two men came from a nearby gangway and opened fire, police said. He was struck in his right leg and managed to get himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was not released but police considered him to be stable.

• A 61-year-old man was wounded when a bullet came through his North Lawndale home Tuesday night.

• A 23-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were shot in Humboldt Park Tuesday evening, police said.
