2 Dead, 30 Wounded In July 4th Weekend Shootings Across The City

CHICAGO — Two people were killed and another 30 were wounded in shootings across Chicago during the July 4 holiday weekend, police said.

At 10:50 p.m. Sunday, police officers found a man dead in the 2200 block of South Lawndale Avenue, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. 

At 3:30 a.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was in the 700 block of North California Avenue when a man walked up and fired shots, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was hit in his neck and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lemmon said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Hector Badillo, of the 400 block of North Trumbull Avenue.

In other weekend violence:

At 1:24 a.m. Monday, a 22-year-old man was standing outside in the 600 block of East 107th Street in Pullman when he heard shots and felt pain, Lemmon said. 

The man, who was shot in his chest, was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Lemmon said. 

At 12:45 a.m. on Monday, a 30-year-old man was shot in his head while driving in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in Little Village, Lemmon said. 

On Sunday, a 42-year-old woman was inside a house in the 1800 block of South Trumbull Avenue in North Lawndale when a bullet hit her in the chest, Lemmon said. 

No time was given for the shooting, police said. 

At 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, a 37-year-old man was in the 8800 block of South Wood Street in Ashburn when a black car drove up and shot him, Lemmon said. 

At 10:45 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was walking in the first block of West Cermak Road in the South Loop when he heard shots and felt pain, Lemmon said.

At 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, a 20-year-old man was walking down the street in the 4000 block of West End Avenue in Austin when two men approached him, started to rob him and then opened fire, Lemmon said. 

At 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, a 52-year-old man was in the 7100 block of South State Avenue in Park Manor when he heard shots and felt pain, Lemmon said. 

At 9:55 p.m. on Sunday, two teens were shot in the 7200 block of South Lowe Avenue, Lemmon said. 

At 1:56 p.m. on Sunday, an 18-year-old boy was in the 9200 block of South Throop in Brainerd when someone fired shots into the garage he was is, Lemmon said. 

From Saturday morning into Sunday morning, 11 people were wounded around the city, police said.

From Friday into Saturday morning, one person was killed and 9 were wounded across the city, police said.
