Five Dead, 30 Wounded Over Weekend

CHICAGO — Five people were killed and 30 other people wounded in shootings over the weekend.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. in Hyde Park when three people were wounded in a shooting near the University of Chicago campus, according to Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Sunday afternoon, three people were also shot in a single incident in Auburn Gresham.

Around 8:45 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot while he was sitting in a car in the 8100 block of South Muskegon Avenue in South Chicago. The man drove himself to the 8100 block of South Manistee Avenue, where he called 911, Greer said.

He was shot in his shoulder and abdomen and taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition, Greer said.

About an hour earlier, a 32-year-old man was shot in his buttocks in Garfield Park. The man was in the 4700 block of West Van Buren Street when a man walked out of an alley and opened fire in his direction about 7:30 p.m., Greer said.

The man was taken to Loretto Hospital by a friend before being transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Greer said.

Four people were wounded in two separate shootings in Englewood and Humboldt Park Sunday afternoon.

From Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning, three people including Luis Perez, 43, were fatally shot and another two were injured in shootings.

From Friday afternoon until Saturday morning, two men were fatally shot and another 16 were left wounded. Friday, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot by police in South Shore and Courtney Jackson, 36, was fatally shot in the 1100 block of North Springfield Avenue in Humboldt Park.
