Two Dead, 26 Wounded in Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO — Shootings across the city over the weekend left two people dead and at least another 26 hospitalized.

Since Sunday afternoon, eight people were wounded in shootings stretching as far north as Uptown, as far northwest as Dunning and as far south as West Pullman.

Most recently, three people were shot in two separate incidents in West Pullman early Monday.

Around 2:20 a.m., two people were inside a parked car in the 12500 block of South Yale Avenue when two men drove up in a dark SUV, got out and opened fire at the parked car, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A 20-year-old man was shot in his leg and abdomen and a 17-year-old boy was shot in his buttocks. The two drove themselves to Roseland Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, Sedevic said.

The shooters returned to their car and drove eastbound. No one is in custody for the shooting.

About an hour earlier, a 22-year-old man was getting into his car in the 11700 block of South Prairie Avenue when he noticed a man in dark clothes walking towards him. The man heard gunshots and drove away before realizing he was shot in his back, Sedevic said.

He drove himself to Roseland Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Sedevic said.

Around 9:15 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in his leg while standing outside in the 7100 block of South State Street in Grand Crossing. The man, who is a documented gang member, was taken to Christ Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Sedevic said.

Around 6:35 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the 4500 block of North Magnolia Avenue in Uptown.

Around 4:30 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in his back while standing the 6100 block of South Ingleside Avenue in Woodlawn about a block from the University of Chicago campus.

Around 2:05 p.m., a 35-year-old woman was shot in her arm during a domestic-related incident in the 3600 block of North Oleander Avenue in Dunning.

Around 12:40 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in his thumb in the 8600 block of South Stony Island Avenue in Avalon Park. He was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was treated and released, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings.

Overnight Saturday into Sunday, a 22-year-old man was fatally shot while sitting in his car in the 400 block of East 82nd Street in Park Manor and 11 others were wounded in shootings.

From Friday night into Saturday, David Finney, 39, of the 11300 block of South Green Street, was fatally shot during a domestic dispute in Morgan Park.

Six others were wounded in shootings including two men shot walking out of home in Humboldt Park near the scene of a recent murder and a 27-year-old man shot in his chest in the South Loop.

Around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, a 24-year-old man was shot in his face in the 1900 block of West 69th Street in Englewood.
