Man Shot in the Back Sunday Afternoon One Block from U. of C. Campus

HYDE PARK — A 32-year-old man was shot in the back Sunday afternoon in Woodlawn.

According to police, the man was standing on the 6100 block of South Ingleside Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt a pain in his back.

Police said he walked one block east to the 6100 block of South Ellis Avenue and from there was taken by ambulance to Stroger Hospital, where he was reported to be in fair condition.

A description of the shooter was not yet available from police.

University of Chicago police said the victim was not associated with the university, which is one block north of where the attack took place.
