PILSEN — All 25th Ward candidates but veteran Ald. Danny Solis will participate in a debate Friday night at UIC, campaigns confirmed this week.
The five candidates were invited to participate in a candidate forum Friday, DNAinfo Chicago reported Wednesday.
Solis will not be able to attend the forum because of a scheduling conflict. A spokesman for the campaign said Wednesday that the campaign had not yet seen an invitation requesting the alderman to attend the event.
Candidates Ed Hershey, Roberto "Beto" Montano, Jorge Mujica and Byron Sigcho all confirmed that they will attend the forum.
The debate's organizer, Jeff Uehlinger, said that all five candidates were invited, via e-mail invitations and in person. Hershey, Mujica and Sigcho have confirmed their participation to organizers; Montano told DNAinfo Chicago that he also plans to participate.

"Members of our organization have been in conversation with staff from Daniel Solis'. . . campaign. They are aware of the event but it is unclear at this point whether they will be able to attend," Uehlinger said. Uehlinger is the the president of United Students Against Sweatshops.
The 25th Ward debate will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the UIC Latino Cultural Center of Chicago, 803 S. Morgan St.
The five candidates vying to represent the 25th Ward are: incumbent Solis, science teacher Hershey, activist Mujica, financial advisor Montano and Sigcho, lead instructor at UIC's Center for Literacy.
The 25th Ward includes parts of Pilsen, Chinatown, the West Loop, Little Italy and Heart of Chicago.
The election is Feb. 24.
