Shootings Wound 5 People Since Thursday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Five people have been wounded in shootings since Thursday, police said.

• Most recently, at 2:17 a.m. Friday, a 23-year-old man was shot in Englewood, police said.

• At 11:40 p.m. Thursday, a 22-year-old man was shot while sitting in front of a home in Morgan Park.

• At 6:45 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in Austin, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The man was standing in the 5500 block of West Race Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain.

The man was hit in his left foot and was taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, Lemmon said.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

• At 4:10 p.m., a 43-year-old man was shot in Brighton Park.

• At 11:05 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in West Pullman, Lemmon said. The man was sitting in the 11500 block of South Peoria Street when a gold car containing three people drove up. One person got out, fired shots and then got into the car and drove off.

The man was hit in his left calf. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition, Lemmon said.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

No one was in custody in these shootings.

Also, at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a 25-year-old man accidentally shot himself in Marquette Park, police said. The man was handling a gun in the 6500 block of South Maplewood Avenue when it went off, hitting his right leg.

The man took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in good condition, police said.

The man said he got rid of the gun after he shot himself, and no gun was found, police said.
