2 Killed, 17 Hurt in Shootings Since Saturday Morning: Police

CHICAGO — Two men were killed and 17 other people were wounded, including a 15-year-old boy and a 65-year-old woman, in shootings since early Saturday, police said.

A man died after being shot in his neck in Humboldt Park Sunday morning, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Hours earlier, Sedevic said, a man was shot in both his legs in Humboldt Park a few blocks away Saturday evening.

Around the same time, a man was killed and a woman was grazed by a bullet in a shooting in Brighton Park, Sedevic said.

A man was in stable condition after being shot in Logan Square near the 606 early Sunday morning, Sedevic said.

• In the most recent non-fatal shooting, a 24-year-old man was shot in his leg during a robbery in Washington Park Sunday morning, Sedevic said.

Around 4:55 a.m., the man was walking in the 5300 block of South Wabash Avenue when two men jumped out of a light-colored sedan and announced it was a robbery, Sedevic said.

They pulled out guns and one of them shot the man before the pair got back in the car and drove away, Sedevic said.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

• At 1:45 a.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man walked into Trinity Hospital with a gunshot wound in his buttocks, Sedevic said.

The man said he was standing on a porch with a group of people in the 10300 block of South Avenue N in East Side when a car pulled up and someone inside shot at them, Sedevic said.

The man was listed in good condition after being treated for the wound, Sedevic said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• About 12:30 a.m., a 16-year-old boy was involved in an argument with a group of people in the 6000 block of South Western Avenue in Chicago Lawn when someone pulled out a gun and shot him in his lower back, Sedevic said.

The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Sedevic said.

Police said the boy is a documented gang member.

• Around the same time, Sedevic said, a 24-year-old man was arguing with someone "about his birthday" in the 900 block of North Long Avenue in Austin when he heard gunshots and felt pain.

The man brought himself to West Suburban Hospital, where he was in stable condition after being treated for a gunshot wound in his leg, Sedevic said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• Around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old man was walking home from a party in the 5000 block of West Hirsch Street in Austin when he heard gunshots and felt pain, Sedevic said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was in stable condition after being treated for a gunshot wound in his leg.

• About a half hour earlier, Sedevic said, a 32-year-old man was walking in the 6800 block of South East End Avenue when a car pulled up and someone inside shot at him. A 23-year-old man sitting in a nearby car was also shot, Sedevic said.

Both men were listed in stable condition at Jackson Park Hospital, Sedevic said. The 32-year-old had been shot in his ankle and his leg, and the 23-year-old had been shot in his shoulder.

Police said the 32-year-old is a documented gang member.

• At 7:37 p.m., a 36-year-old man was walking in the 2500 block of West Pope John Paul II Drive in Brighton Park when two people rode up to him on a bicycle, Sedevic said. One of them got off the bike and yelled a gang slogan before shooting at the man, Sedevic said.

The pair then got back on their bikes and fled northbound, Sedevic said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his lower back, Sedevic said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• About a half hour earlier, a 28-year-old man was walking in the 8900 block of South Morgan Avenue in Auburn Gresham when a dark-colored sedan pulled up and people inside fired shots at him, Sedevic said.

A friend drove the man to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Sedevic said, where he was listed in stable condition after being treated for gunshot wounds in both his feet.

• Around 4:45 p.m. Saturday, an 18-year-old man was standing in the 1300 block of West 82nd Street when he heard gunshots and felt pain, Sedevic said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition with a gunshot wound in his back, Sedevic said.

• At 2:27 p.m., a 21-year-old man was standing in the 7000 block of South Merrill Avenue in South Shore when someone ran out of an alley and shot at him, Sedevic said. A 65-year-old woman standing nearby was also shot, Sedevic said.

Both victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Sedevic said.

The man was listed in serious condition after being shot in his stomach and twice in his thigh, Sedevic said. The woman was in stable condition with a graze wound in her back.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• About a half hour earlier, a 15-year-old boy was shot in his chest in Back of the Yards, police said.

The boy was walking northbound in the 4600 block of South Winchester Avenue when someone ran up and shot at him, Sedevic said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Sedevic said.

Police said the boy is a documented gang member.

• Around 1:20 p.m., a 26-year-old man was walking in the 7800 block of South Emerald Avenue in Auburn Gresham when someone engaged him in a "struggle" and shot him in his left hand, Sedevic said.

The man brought himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was treated and released.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.
