1 Dead, 7 Injured in Shootings, Police Say

CHICAGO — One man was killed and seven people were wounded in shootings Tuesday to Wednesday morning, police said.

A 36-year-old man was driving in Washington Park early Tuesday when he was shot in the head, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, Estrada said.

Most recently, a man was driving on the Laramie Avenue overpass of the Eisenhower Expy. early Wednesday when he was shot in his leg, said Trooper Ark Wozniak, an Illinois State Police spokesman. The man took himself to the hospital, Wozniak said.

Police also shot a man who they said pointed a gun at them early Wednesday in Englewood. The man was treated at an area hospital, according to a police statement.

• At midnight, a 23-year-old woman was walking in the 3600 block of West Douglas Boulevard in North Lawndale when two men walked up to her and fired shots in her direction, Estrada said. The woman was shot in the left side of her chest, her abdomen and her right hand, but was in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, Estrada said.

• At 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, a 20-year-old man was in the 5300 block of South Justine Street in Back of the Yards when he was shot in his hip, Estrada said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, Estrada said. No further information was available.

• At 3:45 p.m., a 19-year-old man was standing on the street in the 2200 block of South Kirkland Avenue in North Lawndale when he heard shots and felt pain, Estrada said. The man was shot in his right calf and took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, Estrada said.

• At noon, a 35-year-old man was shot in Roseland, police said. The man was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center and released, Estrada said.

• At 8 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in West Humboldt Park, Estrada said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was in serious condition, Estrada said.

No one is in custody for these shootings, Estrada said.
