CHICAGO — After a violent night of shootings ripped through the city, killing five people including a 7-year-old boy, and wounding at least 27 others, two more people were wounded in separate shootings Sunday afternoon, police said.

Most recently, a 33-year-old man was shot in both legs on Chicago Avenue near Spaulding Avenue in Humboldt Park around 12 p.m., said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital and was listed in fair condition, Zala said.

An hour earlier, a 24-year-old man was in the 900 block of North Mayfield Avenue in Austin, when two people approached on bicycles and fired shots around 11 a.m., said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in his stomach and taken to Loyola University Medical Center where he was listed in serious condition, Lemmon said.

According to police, the man is a documented gang member.

That brings the total, since the long weekend started Thursday afternoon, to 9 people dead and at least 40 others wounded in shootings on a weekend when Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy promised "all hands on deck" to help prevent the high totals of gun violence from the 2014 holiday weekend.
