OLD TOWN — What's the proper protocol if you spot a rare rogue drone in your backyard?

An Old Town couple treated the flying menace like they would any other pet this week: They trapped it under a stack of lawn chairs and called police.

The saga, which was first reported by NBC Chicago, ultimately ended with the couple's neighbor Jeff Joyce finding his lost $1,300 drone.

Noemi Kopp-Tanaka spotted the drone in her yard Monday and waited for police to carry it away.

The neighbor whose drone went missing put up fliers around the neighborhood looking for his missing aircraft, which he told NBC had lost its signal mid-flight and landed.

“I lost a dog before and I had that exact same feeling,” Joyce told NBC.

The arrival of personal drones has sparked a discussion of privacy around the country.

Many of the drones are equipped with high-quality video cameras and have been used by enthusiasts to shoot video and photos from angles and heights around Chicago that have never been seen before.

The Federal Aircraft Administration has introduced limits on their usage.

Drone cannot be used for commercial purposes, but there are proposals in the works that would allow for certain commercial usage.

"Introducing Unmanned aircraft systems into the nation's airspace is challenging for both the FAA and aviation community, because the U.S. has the busiest, most complex airspace in the world," according to the FAA's website.
