Four Fatally Shot, 3 Fatally Stabbed, 38 Wounded Over the Weekend Citywide

CHICAGO — Some 38 people were wounded, four people were fatally shot and three people were stabbed to death across the city over the weekend.

Overnight Sunday, two people were killed and 10 people were wounded including a 13-year-old boy fatally shot in Marquette Park around 8:30 p.m.

A shooting in South Chicago around 11 p.m. left a man dead and two people wounded.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred about 20 minutes after midnight in South Shore. A 30-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of South Ridgeland Avenue when he was shot in his lower back. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in stable condition, Estrada said.

In other non-fatal shootings across the city:

• A 34-year-old man was shot in Gage Park around midnight. The man was in a van in the 5300 block of South Kedzie Avenue, when a man approached and opened fire. The 34-year-old man was struck in his groin and listed in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, Estrada said.

• Around 10:45 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the 3200 block of North Long Avenue in Cragin. The man was in a parked car when several men approached on foot and began shouting gang slogans before opening fire. The man drove the car to the 6600 block of West Belmont Avenue and called police. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical center, where he was listed in serious condition after being shot in his shoulder, Estrada said.

• Around 10:10 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in his back as he sat in a parked vehicle in the 3500 block of West Huron Street in East Garfield Park. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. No one is in custody for the shooting, which appears to be drug-related, Estrada said.

• Two people were shot around 10 p.m. near the Bronzeville neighborhood. The two teens were walking in the 600 block of East 38th Place when someone opened fire from a light-colored van. A 16-year-old boy was struck in his left leg and left arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized. An 18-year-old man was grazed in his right hand and taken to Mercy Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Estrada said.

Around 9:30 p.m., an 18-year-old was shot in West Englewood.

• Around 6:15 p.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in a gang-related shooting in the 4400 block of King Drive in Bronzeville. He was taken to Mercy Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Estrada said.

Friday night into Saturday, two people were killed and 14 others were injured in shootings.

From Saturday morning into Sunday, another 17 people were wounded in shootings including a 13-year-old boy. Saturday afternoon, a man was fatally stabbed in Woodlawn.

A domestic incident on the Northwest Side of the city left a mother and her child dead.
