The shooting happened in the 6000 block of South Maplewood Avenue.
The incident happened near Grant Park early Friday.
Even after complying with the thief's demands, the man was shot, police said.
Dwayne Johnson, 55, was seen breaking locks and burglarizing businesses, police said.
The rapper, Kiara Johnson, was charged with identity theft and unlawful possession of a credit card.
Five women and two men were hit during the mass shooting in the first block of East 37th Place.
