WEST TOWN — A group of men robbed six people over two days in West Loop and West Town last month, according to community alert issued by Chicago Police on Friday.

The five incidents occurred Aug. 22 and 23 in the Near West District, police said. The alert follows another robbery spree that occurred Aug. 14-17.

The victims were approached by groups of men with guns who robbed them, police said.

Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, said Friday three of the five crimes involved a single man being robbed.

In one of those cases, a University of Illinois at Chicago student was robbed of his backpack, cellphone and wallet, and the men that robbed him fled in a gold sedan with no license plate, university police said.

In another case, a lone woman was carjacked, while in yet another, the victims were a man and a woman.

Amezaga said four of the five robberies involved three male robbers and one was a group of 5.

Police described the offenders as three to five black men ages 17-28, standing 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-1, weighing 140-160 pounds, with black hair.

The men were wearing black masks in one incident, and one robber was described as having dreadlocks hairstyle and wearing a black baseball hat with a red bill.

The robberies happened at:

• 1:50 a.m. Aug. 22 in the 1000 block of West Vernon Park Place

• 2 a.m. Aug. 22 in the 800 block of West Jackson Boulevard

• 7:15 a.m. Aug. 22 in the 2000 block of West Huron Street

• 5:15 a.m. Aug. 23 in the 900 block of North Wolcott Avenue

• 5:25 a.m. Aug. 23 in the 2000 block of West Ohio Street

Police ask neighbors to be aware of surroundings and report suspicious activity immediately. If confronted, remain clam and remember any unique physical characteristics like scars or acne.

Victims should not pursue robbers, but report information to police and save any surveillance or video footage of the incident and contact information from potential witnesses.

Those with information on the three reported robberies can call detectives at 312-747-8382.
