CHICAGO — The city released dramatic dashcam footage from July 16 in which a police sergeant shot and wounded a man who allegedly raised a gun at officers in a Belmont Cragin alley during a early morning traffic stop.
At 3:07 a.m. July 16, officers say they saw a driver with expired plates not using his turning signal, so they pulled him over in the 2800 block of North Mulligan Avenue, police said.
The officers walked up to the car and saw a man or boy in the backseat with a gun, police said.
The video, released by the city agency now known as the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, shows an officer pointing a gun at a car. About 6 minutes and 23 seconds into the video, shots were fired.
Two officers fired shots in the incident.
The agency also released an arrest report saying that Saul Flores, the 18-year-old shot in the video, "attempted to take possession of the nearby firearm on the floor board of the vehicle ... after being directed by the officers to not touch or attempt to take control of the weapon observed in plain view."
One of the officers involved reported Flores raised a gun at him.
Flores was charged with three felonies including unlawful possession of a handgun and two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer.
He was shot in his left arm, right thigh and right hip.
Flores is now at Cook County Jail where he is being held without bail.
