CHICAGO — Police shot and wounded a person in Belmont Cragin early Sunday, police said.

At 3:07 a.m., officers saw a driver commit a traffic violation and pulled over the driver in the 2800 block of North Mulligan Avenue, according to a Chicago Police news release. The officers walked up to the car and saw a man or boy in the backseat with a gun.

An officer and a sergeant fired shots, police said. The person in the backseat — whose age was not immediately available — was hit and taken to Loyola Hospital. His condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

A gun was found at the scene, police said, and no officers were wounded.

The shooting was under investigation and officers who were involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, according to a Chicago Police news release.

Last weekend, another police-involved shooting in Belmont Cragin left 24-year-old Brayant Alvarez dead.
