WEST LOOP — A couple of streets in West Loop will close Thursday during filming of a new Showtime series called "The Chi."

Both Clinton Street and Milwaukee Avenue will close from Lake Street to Fulton Street from roughly 11 a.m.-11 p.m. for filming of the television series.

Drivers can use Canal, Jefferson or Des Plaines streets for alternative routes.

Filming earlier in the day could result in brief sidewalk and street lane closures, as well.

"The Chi," which does not have a set premiere date yet, follows six South Siders making their way in the city. "Straight Outta Compton" actor Jason Mitchell plays Brandon, who dreams of opening his own restaurant but is conflicted by his responsibility to his family on the South Side. Sonja Sohn of "The Wire" plays his mother.

The show's creator is Chicago native Lena Waithe, who was nominated for an Emmy Award for her writing on Aziz Ansari's Netflix Series, "Master of None," on which she also plays the main character's friend Denise. Fellow South Sider and rapper-turned-actor Common is an executive producer.

"Moonlight" star Alex R. Hibbert and Jahking Guillory are also part of the cast.

Filming for the show began in Chicago in April.
