65 People Shot, 9 Killed In Chicago Over The Weekend

CHICAGO — Shootings left at least nine people dead and 56 wounded this weekend across Chicago.

Of those victims, one was killed and 16 were wounded since Sunday morning.

• At 6:25 p.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old man was shot to death in a drive-by in North Lawndale. Two teens were wounded.

In nonfatal shootings:

• At 10:38 p.m. Sunday, a 38-year-old man was shot in Humboldt Park.

• At 9:50 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in Woodlawn, police said. The man was walking in the 6300 block of South Vernon Avenue when a robber pulled a gun on him.  The man tried to knock away the gun, but the robber fired a shot, hitting the man in his hand, police said. The victim took himself to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was in good condition.

• At 9:05 p.m., three people were on a porch in the 10100 block of South LaSalle Street when someone ran up to them and fired shots, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was hit in his left arm and leg, and he took himself to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition, police said.

A 58-year-old man was hit in his left arm, and a 48-year-old man was hit multiple times. They were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where the older man was in good condition and the younger man was in critical condition, police said.

A blood trail from the porch led to an alley where officers found a gun, police said. A neighbor told officers the shooting stemmed from events at a house party.

• Between 5:55 p.m. and 8:03 p.m., four people were wounded in three shootings in Austin. The shootings happened just two blocks apart.

• At 5:09 p.m., a 49-year-old man was shot on the East Side, police said. The man was outside in the 10600 block of South Green Bay Avenue when a light-colored minivan pulled up and someone got out of the car, covered his face and fired shots at the man.

The man was hit in his back, and he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

The attacker drove off, police said.

• At 4:50 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in Austin, police said. The man was in the 5100 block of West North Avenue when he was shot in his lower right leg.

The man took himself to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, police said.

No further information was immediately available.

• At 1:12 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot by gunmen who used shirts to hide their faces in Heart of Chicago.

• At 8:46 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in West Englewood, police said. The man was in the 5700 block of South Paulina Street when someone got out of a dark-colored car in an alley and walked up to the man.

The attacker fired shots, hitting the man in his right arm and left ankle, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

• At 8 a.m., a 40-year-old man was shot in North Lawndale, police said. The man was in the 1400 block of South Homan Avenue when he was shot in his left thigh.

The man took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

No further information was immediately available.

No one was in custody in any of the shootings.

Shootings killed seven people and wounded 27 others between Saturday and Sunday, and one person was killed and 13 people wounded in shootings between Friday and Saturday.
