Morgue Asks For Help Finding Someone Who Knew Man Found Dead

By Kelly Bauer | August 15, 2017 1:04pm

CHICAGO — The Cook County morgue is trying to find someone who knew a man found dead in Little Village last month.

The man has been identified as Mauricio Cornejo-Rivas, 52, of Mexico, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records, but officials have not been able to find family or friends of him.

The cause and manner of the man's death was pending, but authorities said his body showed "signs of trauma" when they found him July 24.

At 1:50 a.m., a friend found Cornejo-Rivas lying in an abandoned building where homeless people sleep in the 2700 block of South Komensky Avenue, police said. The friend left to flag down officers.

Officers went to the man and found him lying face-up, bloodied and showing "signs of trauma," police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about Cornejo-Rivas was asked to call the Medical Examiner's Office at 312-666-0500.
