Help 'Clean And Green' Near West Side Parks, Streets This Weekend

NEAR WEST SIDE — From the West Loop to Pilsen, Near West Side neighbors will gather to spruce up streets and parks in honor of Earth Day this weekend. 

Here is your chance to help out at a clean and green event in your neighborhood. 

Earth Day at Skinner Park  

The Skinner Park Advisory Council will host the 16th annual Skinner Park Earth Day cleanup from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the park, 1331 W. Monroe St. in the West Loop. 

Neighbors can volunteer in two or four-hour increments. No experience is necessary and all tools and training will be provided on site.

Food and refreshments will be served for all volunteers at the event.

Madison Row Clean and Green 

The West Central Association and Madison Street businesses will host a Madison Row Clean and Green day at 9 a.m. Saturday in the West Loop.  

Neighbors should meet at Groundswell Coffee Roasters, 1168 W. Madison St., for coffee and pastries before heading out to clean Madison.  After the cleanup, at 11:30 a.m., neighbors will meet for pizza at WestEnd, 1326 W. Madison St., to celebrate a job well done. 

The West Central Association is providing equipment for the cleanup.

Bartelme Park Clean and Green 

The Mary Bartelme Park Advisory Council will host a Clean and Green event from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the park, 115 S. Sangamon St. in the West Loop.

Harrison Park Earth Day Clean Up

Harrison Park neighbors and Friends of the Parks will host an Earth Day cleanup from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the park, 1824 S. Wood St. in Pilsen. 

Volunteers will pick up trash, plant flowers and mulch trees in an effort to keep the park beautiful. 

Neighbors can sign up to volunteer online.

University Village Community Clean Up Day 

The University Village Neighborhood Alliance, University Commons neighbors and UIC will host a Community Clean Up Day from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday at University Commons, 1011 W. 14th Place. in University Village. 

Neighbors will clean up trash in the neighborhood and remove dead vegetation and water will be provided to all volunteers.

Touhy-Herbert Park Clean and Green 

The Touhy-Herbert Park Advisory Council will host a Clean and Green event from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday in the park, 2016 W. Adams St. on the Near West Side. 

Neighbors can sign up to volunteer online. Coffee and donuts will be provided for early bird volunteers.
