UPTOWN — After spending most of January closed for renovations, Caravan Restaurant plans to debut its new look, vibe and menu Tuesday afternoon.

The restaurant at 4810 N. Broadway, which is known for its Middle Eastern cuisine, began working on its renovations in October when business began to slow, the owner said.

"The business was not as good as it was when it first opened," said Bobby Sedghi, who has owned the Uptown restaurant for five years. "It felt exclusive to Middle Eastern folks."

Along with the renovations, it also updated its menu adding pub food and pizza alongside its Persian menu items. The new items reflect what "more of a majority of people" in the area want, he said.

"Now, I can get people from my neighborhood, instead of just being a destination spot," Sedghi said.

The renovations include wood paneling resembling a Jack Daniel's cask, new pool tables and lots of new TVs that will be tuned into sports, he said.

While Caravan will open at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sedghi is still waiting on TV projectors that will give customers more options for viewing. The new VIP section has four screens built into its glass walls that will allow viewing on both sides, he said.

The projectors will also allow sports and menu items to be projected on the front windows, which will come in handy during the summer months when the patio is open, he said.

Sedghi also hopes to attract servers, bartenders and hostesses to the restaurant with an industry discount, which takes 50 percent off food and beverages. The discount will be available every day on dine-in purchases to restaurant and bar employees as long as they bring in a paycheck stub, he said.

Caravan's official grand opening will be on Super Bowl Sunday and includes a complimentary buffet dinner served at halftime.
