LOGAN SQUARE — Say goodbye to Surf Bar, the beach-themed bar from the same owners as Emporium.

After just six months of business, the owners have decided to close the bar at 2367 N. Milwaukee Ave. and replace it with a pop-up event space that will serve as an extension of bar/arcade Emporium, which is located next door at 2353 N. Milwaukee Ave.

"This seemed like a great opportunity to use the space in a way that seemed more fun than what we were doing at Surf," co-owner Danny Marks told DNAinfo.

Marks and his team are teaming up with popular liqueur brand Fernet-Branca on the new spot, which will be called Branca Bar. It'll be modeled after Fernet's Italian distillery tasting room and host various art, food and drink partners for "limited-run concepts."

"With the location being right next door to Emporium, this is more in line with my goals of building Emporium through these cool partnerships," Marks said. "Building Emporium is more where I am focusing right now than trying to open different bars and restaurants."

Branca Bar will officially debut Feb. 1.

Surf Bar, which opened in July, will remain open on the weekends in January until the transition is complete, Marks said.

More details will be released in the coming weeks.
