CHICAGO — Starbucks plans to open a pizza-serving bakery in the West Loop in 2017.

One of the first of its kind, the spot will combine an Italian menu with specialty coffee from Starbucks' Roastery.

The bakery items will come from Princi, an Italian restaurant chain, and the menu is expected to feature Princi staples like pizza and focaccia bread.

Starbucks will also bring the specialty drinks and "theatre and romance" from its Seattle Roastery to its new Starbucks Reserve outpost in the West Loop, according to the company. The Roastery roasts coffee beans on-site in small batches and employees teach caffeine aficionados about coffee.

It wasn't immediately clear where the store would be, but in April Starbucks confirmed it had signed a lease on a 3,100-square-foot space at 1000 W. Randolph St. At the time, the chain said that spot might offer its specialty Reserve coffees.

A Starbucks spokeswoman told DNAinfo the store would open in late 2017 or early 2018.
