OLD TOWN — After just seven months on Wells Street, independently owned doughnut and coffee shop Doodle Doughnut's is closing, its owner announced Thursday.

Owner and founder Dana Lanier said her shop, at 1419 N. Wells St., simply wasn't making enough money, according to a Facebook post.

"After considerable deliberation, I have decided to close Doodle’s permanently. As a single parent, I was not able to make it sufficiently profitable while still allowing enough time to raise my kids. My family and the Doodle’s team have deeply appreciated the opportunity to serve you," the post reads.

Lanier said the last day of business will be Sunday. She was not immediately available for further comment Friday morning.

At Doodle's, customers were encouraged to decorate their own bismarck doughnuts ($3.50) using a piping bag of colored icing.
