LITTLE ITALY — A woman was sexually abused in the Little Italy neighborhood earlier this month, Chicago Police confirmed.

At about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16, the 23-year-old woman was standing in the 800 block of South Racine Avenue when a  man walked up behind her and groped her, Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, said Monday.

The man touched her body, and when the woman realized she didn't known him, she screamed and he fled eastbound on Polk Street.

The man was believed to be in his 20s, though police provided no other identifying characteristics.

The Sept. 16 incident came a week after another woman reported she was groped during an attempted robbery a block away in the 700 block of South Racine Avenue.

In that incident, the 29-year-old woman was walking at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 9 when a man approached her, groped her and attempted to take her purse, police said.

Like in the Sept. 16 incident, police provided very few details on the suspect, saying it was a man believed to be 20-30 years old.

Police do not believe the cases are related at this time, officials said.
