LAKEVIEW — The shake-up continues on a dozy block in Lakeview as a well-established Mexican restaurant moves south.

Taqueria los Caminos de Michoacan will close at 3948 N. Sheridan Road on Sunday after 13 years in business. Owner Maria Characheo is moving to the South Side and taking the restaurant with her, she said Tuesday.

The BYOB taco joint will reopen in Back of the Yards at 4933 S. Ashland Ave., the restaurant said.

Named for the roads of Michoacán — a state in Mexico — los Caminos de Michoacan serves up no-nonsense tacos, burritos and enchiladas that satisfy any Mexican craving.

Open late near the Sheridan "L" station and Wrigley Field, it was a popular late-night eatery, with kitschy artwork, televisions and a digital jukebox.

The move comes at a time when the corner of Sheridan and Irving Park Road is changing swiftly. Lakeview Pantry opened its first permanent home across the street from los Caminos de Michocan in June, pouring $3.5 million into the two-story building at 3945 N. Sheridan Road over the past year.

TAC Quick will uproot from Sheridan and Dakin to replace Fornello Trattoria at 1011 W. Irving Park Road. The Thai restaurant will remain in Lakeview while making room for an eight-story transit-oriented development at stretching along 3928-34 N. Sheridan Road.

In May, Burger Hub fired up the grill at 3915 N. Sheridan Road, which was left vacant when Crepe Town folded a month earlier after six years.

Next door to the taqueria, a Subway replaced Petite Pita, which closed in November.
